21 Nations Competing for BYTE Championship
The 2013 Byte CII Worlds at Sail Newport
NEWPORT, RI (August 25, 2013) - 38 sailors from 21 nations are competing for the top slot at the 2013 BYTE World Championship. The event started on Saturday for a pre-worlds set of three races. Once the three races were compiled, entrants dropped their worst score and the cumulative score from the remaining two races became their worlds "first race score."
Anderson Reggio, Sail Newport's Principal Race Officer said "It's been going fantastic. The current has definitely played a major factor in the racing as it's been the most talked about issue from the majority of foreign competitors." Today we positioned the course to minimize effect of current."
A perfect seabreeze today and by the end of racing we had 14 - 15 knots. There's still a long way to go for these young competitors. A big breeze day is expected tomorrow with four races planned by the race commitee.
Bob Adam from Zim Sailing, the US Byte CII distributor commented "Apart from Optis, this is probably one of the largest international regattas outside of Europe in a long time. "
'We are absolutely thrilled that sailors from 21 countries are here for this World Championship, its an awesome introduction for the Byte CII for youth sailors in the United States," he said.
