New J22 Fleet for Sail Newport
Sail Newport is please to announce that an entire new fleet of J22s are being built now at Waterline Systems. The new fleet of 14 boats will be delivered and launched at the Sailing Center in May. Sail Newport has used the J22 boats since 1987 and consider the One-Design boat a perfect vehicle to teach sailing and racing because it's comfortable for both children and adults. The very responsive boats are also ideal for Sail Newport's active rental program from Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
A fundraising campaign has been launched to help pay for the boats. There are three ways individuals and business can help with the new fleet.
I. WE APPRECIATE DONATIONS OF ANY AMOUNT
First, donations towards a boat are welcome in any amount. Donors can specify which boat they want donation to be directed as four of the boats will be names to commenmorate legendary 12 Meter yachts Weatherly, Intrepid, American Eable and Columbia.
Donations can be made online J22 Donation.
II. YOU CAN JOIN OTHERS AND FUND A BOAT AS A SYNDICATE
Secondly, donors have the opportunity to join other donors for "syndicate" boats which will be gathered in groups to pay for and name a boat. Brad Read is organizing a consortium of donors who wish to team up for the fundraising effort.
III. BECOME A LEGACY DONOR
Thirdly, a LEGACY DONOR option is a program that purchases a new boat and, deposits funds in an endowment to help ensure that Sail Newport will be able to replace the fleet every 10-12 years. The total amount of the LEGACY DONATION is $100,000. Approximately $40,00 will be used to immediately purchase one of the boats, and, the remaining $60,000 will be placed in the endowment for the future fleet. This is certainly the gift that keeps on giving - and your chosen name will be with Sail Newport for many years to come!
We would like to thank the following LEGACY DONORS for their generous contribution for the boat program. These LEGACY DONORS have chosen their boat names which will be kept in perpetuity! Plan on seeing these boats around for a long time:
